Biography

Omar Al Futtaim is the vice chairman and chief executive officer of Al-Futtaim Group, the Dubai-based family conglomerate that his father, Abdulla Al-Futtaim, owns. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Macalester College in Minnesota (1985) and started his career in investment banking at Morgan Stanley in New York and the UK before joining the family business. He chairs the Al Futtaim Education Foundation and sits on the boards of Commercial Bank of Dubai, Orient Insurance, Emirates Investment Bank and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce. Gulf Business included him at number 86 in its Top 100 Global Arabs list for 2026. Forbes Middle East estimated the Al-Futtaim family's net worth at $4.7 billion in May 2026; that is a family estimate, not a personal figure. Sources differ on when he became chief executive: the company says 2001, while Wikipedia says 2011, after Robert Willett resigned.
