MGX: Abu Dhabi’s AI Investment Vehicle and Its $100 Billion Target
Editorial

MGX is an Abu Dhabi investment vehicle focused on artificial intelligence. It was launched in 2024 by Mubadala and the AI company G42 and announced by the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AI-CIO). Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan chairs MGX and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Mubadala’s chief executive, is vice chairman.
The $100 billion figure
Bloomberg reported that MGX could pass $100 billion in assets under management within a few years, citing people familiar with the matter. This is a target and not a confirmed balance. Some analysts question whether such headline numbers reflect committed capital or ambition.
Focus areas
Reporting says MGX invests in AI infrastructure, semiconductors, and AI core technologies and applications. In 2024 it joined BlackRock, Microsoft and NVIDIA in the Global AI Infrastructure Partnership, which targets $30 billion in equity and up to $100 billion with debt for data centres and related infrastructure. MGX has also been reported as a participant in funding rounds for AI developers such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
Reported 2026 activity
Press reports citing unnamed sources say MGX has raised close to $50 billion from institutions and is deploying about $10 billion a year. We have not seen these figures confirmed by MGX.
Risks
Export controls on advanced chips and the cyclical nature of AI valuations are risks that analysts mention. This article is not investment advice.
