Talks center on artificial intelligence strategy, digital transformation, and long-term economic resilience.
Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and UAE National Security Adviser, met with former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair in Abu Dhabi to discuss the strategic role of artificial intelligence in shaping future-ready governance models.
According to a statement shared by Sheikh Tahnoon on X (formerly Twitter), the meeting focused on the rapid evolution of advanced technologies and how AI can enhance public sector performance, strengthen policy design, and support data-driven decision-making across government entities.
Blair, who currently serves as Executive Chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, has been advising governments globally on digital transformation and governance modernization.
Beyond AI, discussions also touched on economic diversification and the energy sector’s contribution to long-term sustainability. Both leaders exchanged perspectives on how emerging technologies can improve operational efficiency, increase institutional resilience, and accelerate innovation within public administration systems.
Advancing AI-Centered Government Strategy
Abu Dhabi’s AI ambitions align with its broader Government Digital Strategy 2025–2027, which aims to transition public services toward more integrated, technology-enabled systems.
The emirate is positioning itself as a regional leader in artificial intelligence adoption, embedding advanced analytics and automation into government operations.
According to official UAE government announcements, approximately Dh13 billion ($3.53 billion) has been allocated between 2026 and 2027 to support AI infrastructure, digital platforms, and innovation initiatives across federal and local departments.
This funding forms part of a wider national strategy to strengthen competitiveness and operational excellence.
In June 2024, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced that the National Artificial Intelligence System would become an advisory member of the UAE Cabinet beginning January 2026.
The system is expected to provide technical insights, scenario analysis, and policy optimization support.
The announcement was followed by the unveiling of a new federal strategy cycle aimed at integrating AI into government planning frameworks and service delivery mechanisms.
