Fertiglobe: Ruwais Low-Carbon Ammonia Plant Targets 2027 as Company Reports $1 Billion EBITDA
Editorial

Fertiglobe, the Abu Dhabi-headquartered nitrogen fertiliser producer, reported its 2025 results in February 2026. This article summarises what the company and its partners have confirmed about those results and about the lower-carbon ammonia plant being built in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi.
2025 results
According to Fertiglobe’s results release:
- Revenue was $2.82 billion, up 41% on 2024.
- Adjusted EBITDA was $1.02 billion, up 57%.
- Adjusted attributable net profit was $325 million, up 87%.
The Khaleej Times also reported the results. The company says ADNOC holds a majority ownership through XRG.
Dividends and capital returns
Fertiglobe proposed a second-half 2025 dividend of $135 million, subject to approval at its annual general meeting. That would bring total 2025 dividends to $260 million. Including $74 million of share buybacks, 2025 capital returns total $334 million. The company says it has paid or committed $2.9 billion in capital returns since its IPO.
The Grow 2030 strategy
The company says initiatives under its Grow 2030 strategy now represent 43% of its 2030 EBITDA growth target, and that it has activated more than 40% of that target. Its release gives these details:
- The Manufacturing Improvement Programme is 46% under way, with potential EBITDA of $55 million by 2028.
- The cost-reduction programme is 99% complete on a run-rate basis against a $55 million target.
- Fertiglobe Australia and Egypt ammonia sales optimisation is expected to add $31 million of EBITDA by 2030.
- Diesel exhaust fluid and automotive-grade urea capacity in the UAE and Egypt is expected to add $22 million of annual EBITDA by 2030.
The release also refers to the acquisition of Wengfu Australia but does not give a price.
The Ruwais ammonia plant
The Ruwais plant is a joint project, not a Fertiglobe-only investment. Mitsui & Co. announced in June 2024 that construction had begun on an ammonia production facility in Ruwais, with these key points:
- The plant is expected to produce 1 million tonnes of ammonia a year from 2027, with lower CO₂ emissions than conventional ammonia.
- Facilities to capture and store the CO₂ from production are planned, with clean ammonia production targeted by 2030.
- The partners are TA’ZIZ (a joint venture of ADNOC and ADQ), Fertiglobe, Mitsui and GS Energy.
- Mitsui will take a share of the output for Japan and other Asian markets, and has signed a loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation to finance its part of the project.
MAIRE Tecnimont said in May 2024 that it had received notice to proceed on the plant, which it described as producing about 3,000 tonnes a day.
What is not confirmed
We could not find a primary source for the project’s current completion percentage, its total cost or its final start date, so we do not state them. Fertiglobe’s investor materials are the place to look for updates.
